Revit is one of the few cases where you will benefit a lot from having a powerful computer. Creating model based building designs can require a lot of computation power and even their official requirements are quite demanding. Often you will find that the manufacturers’ requirements are much lower than even what low budget laptops offer. But for revit there are some steep requirements if you want to go with their pro plan. Most laptops I will recommend will be geared towards the pro plan. The best laptop for Revit should be able to handle the most demanding tasks that you can do with the program.

Below you will find the laptops that we think are the best for Revit. You will find that a so called gaming laptop will be quite good for Revit. The reason is simply because games also require a lot of visual rendering, exactly like Revit. With Revit the better the laptop the better performance you will get. The only problem is your budget. You can spend quite a lot of money on a computer, the question is how much you want to spend.
Dell XPS 15 Inch – Top Pick
The Dell XPS 15 inch model fits all the requirements for using the pro plan of Revit. The screen is an ultra HD model with resolution of 3840 x 2160. This is a great screen displaying rendered models in high quality. Of course you need the hardware to back it up, and this laptop does. The screen also gets incredibly bright with 500 nits. Most laptops only get to 300 nits. This makes the laptop suitable for use in light areas, as you can counteract the natural light to reduce glare. The screen is also anti-glare which is great when you can’t control your surrounding light.
The laptop comes with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM which is exactly what we are looking for. There are 2 8GB chips in it so it is using both of its slots. You can upgrade this in the future if you want but 16 GB is the amount that we are looking for. The RAM in this laptop goes up to 2666 MHz which should be very good for Revit as it is very fast.
There is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 with 4 GB of GDDR5 in the laptop. This is a good GPU for a laptop and will be great for heavy computation tasks such as modeling. In a laptop you will not get the best GPU available, but this should be okay for a lot of modeling in Revit. This GPU is not on the Revit’s list of certified GPUs, but you will be hard pressed to find a laptop with one. Most of them are high end GPUs that you only find on desktop computers. A laptop will never be as powerful as a desktop computer, at least not in the foreseeable future. Perhaps when we reach a point where you can fit all the most powerful parts into such a small compartment but not now.

Razer Blade 15 Gaming Laptop
The razer blade is a good option for Revit. Even though it is a so called gaming laptop, it does not look bad. Most gaming laptops look horrible, almost so bad you would be embarrassed to take it out in public, but this looks quite nice. The only thing is the big logo on the back of the screen. That being said, gaming laptops have a lot going for them in the performance department, and that is what we need in a laptop for Revit.
The CPU on this laptop is a core i7-9750H. That is a 9th generation i7, which is one of the best models you will get on a laptop these days. You will be hard pressed to find a better CPU for Revt on a laptop. It has 6 cores, which is less than the 16 that the program can make use of, but for a laptop it is really good. A 16 core CPU is going to cost you about half of this laptop alone, so you will only find them in desktop computers. If this CPU can handle rendering high end games then it will do okay in rendering most models in Revit fine.
The GPU on this laptop is an RTX 2060. It is a powerful CPU for a laptop and it is good for games, meaning it should also be capable for Revit. It is not on the official list of certified GPUs, but there will be no laptops on this list that are. You will also have a very hard time finding anyone other places. This GPU is using the Turing architecture which allows real time ray tracing and AI. The graphics card has 8 GB of dedicated RAM which is quite a lot. This is the sort of GPU you would expect from a laptop in this price range.
The laptop also comes with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM which is the minimum that we are looking for. 16 GB should be good enough, but as with the other laptops, you will be able to upgrade this if you wish. Just make sure that the laptop you chose has the DDR4 kind.
The screen is full HD which is 1920 x 1080. That is not as much as the recommended 1920 x 1200, but you will only find that in external monitors. If you want a laptop it will either be full HD which is 1920 x 1080, or ultra HD which is much higher. There are ultra HD options available but this resolution should be good enough. It is more than what is required from some of their lower recommendations.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX701
Another great laptop for Revit is the ASUS ROG Zephyrus. It might be a hard name to say, but it certainly is a good laptop. This is one of the larger laptops with a 17.3 inch screen. For Revit a big screen is actually a good thing as you might imagine. THe screen is a full HD option, meaning 1920 x 1080. This should be good enough for Revit.
The laptop comes with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 GPU. This is a very good GPU for a laptop. As mentioned before, none of the GPUs on this list is on the official supported GPUs because they are ridiculously expensive and you will have a hard time finding a laptop with them. Laptops will always be a little weaker than their desktop counterparts because space limitations. This GPU will be good enough for most of your Revit needs, and it is one of the better ones you will find in a laptop.
The CPU on this model is an I7-9750H. This is a standard CPU once you get up into the premium territory, and you won’t find much better options that this one.
As with the other options this laptop comes with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM. Even in this price range it is not common to get more, and frankly that is probably because you don’t need much more. As long as you have the DDR4 kind you are good, as you can always upgrade to more later.

Although not cheap, the Dell Inspiron is more a budget option if you are looking for something a bit more affordable. If you are looking for the best laptop for revit then have a look at one of the other models. But if you are looking for a computer that has a better compromise between price and performance then this is a good option.
The Inspiron has the same CPU that many other options here have. It is an Intel Core i7-9750H. Before the 10th generation is more common, this CPU is one of the better ones for a laptop.
The laptop also has a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 GPU. It is not as powerful as the other options but the fact that it has a GPU makes it a viable option. You can also use this one for video games if you are looking for a cheaper option for that.
There is only 8GB of RAM in this laptop but that is not something you cant upgrade yourself. It is the DDR4 kind which is the more important part.
The SSD is 256 GB which also might be a bit small for your use case. As I have mentioned before, you can always get external storage if you need more.
The Dell Inspiron is one of the best mid-range laptops on the market right now. If you are looking for something a little cheaper than the rest of the options on this list then definitely have a look at it.

What to look for in the best laptop for Revit
Their revit requirements aren’t as specific as you might want them to be.
For CPU it says under the performance plan that you can use up to 16 cores, which is a lot. Most laptops will not have more than 6 cores on the CPU. It also mentions that the best CPU for Revit is the highest affordable speed that you can afford. We will look for a 9th generation Intel i7 with 6 cores in the best laptop for revit, as it won’t get much better currently.
As far as RAM goes it says 16 GB is usually sufficient. 8 GB is the new minimum for mid range laptops, so 16 GB is not unreasonable. More than that you would usually only get on gaming laptops. You can also upgrade the amount at a later point if you want. I would like to add that in addition to the amount of RAM you should get, you should also think about the type. Not all RAM is equal, and you will notice that laptops usually comes with either DDR3 or DDR4 type RAM. DDR4 is faster and uses less power. You should get a minimum of 16 GB of DDR4 RAM. You will also be stuck with the type of RAM that you get, as you cant switch between DDR3 and DDR4 as the chips have different forms.
They recommend getting a graphics card that is DirectX 11 capable with shader model 5. A GPU is good for many things, so you can benefit in more areas if you have one. I can often help taking some of the load off the CPU with a lot of programs so you can use one even if you don’t do other things such as playing video games.

As far as the screen goes they have a minimum resolution of 1920 x 1200, and a maximum of ultra HD (3840 x 2160). If their minimum really is 1920 x 1200 then most full hd screens will not be optimal as they are 1920 x 1080. That means that we have to go with one of the ultra HD screen options to really get the best performance out of the laptop screen. As far as the size of the screen you should get a minimum of 15 inches. This is not a product requirement, but you need at least that size for any sort of productivity. 13 inches is very small and doing model work on such a small screen will not be good. You might also want to invest in an external screen at some point so that you can get more screen real estate.
As far as disk space goes it requires 5 GB of free space. You also want to make sure that you have enough space to save all your models and any other programs you might want on the laptop. Most common storage size options these days range from 256 GB to 512 GB. As the best laptop for revit will be quite powerful and not very cheap, they often come with larger storage space. It says that if you get a hard drive it should be at least 10,000 RPM. We are going for an SSD drive, and if it has a hard drive it will be a secondary one that can be used to store files.

Revit is a demanding software. You will need quite a bit of computational power to be able to get the best performance out of it. You can probably make due with most laptops, but the best laptop for revit is a powerful one. If you look in the gaming category you will find a lot of suitable laptops. If you are short on budget then you might be better off building a desktop from parts, as you can get a little more value for your money that way.
